We're in Roanoke, Virginia, after another wonderful day. But more about that later.
We've been in and out of spring this entire trip. Like today: the spring flowers and bulbs at Monticello were in full bloom. Same at the Elizabethan Gardens in the Outer Banks. In Savannah and Charleston, we were past spring and saw very few flowers. Spring never came to the Texas Hill Country because of a drought last fall.
Also today, the leaves on the trees on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia were just leafing out at 2500 feet. At 3200+ there were no leaves at all - at first we thought we were traveling through miles of dead trees until we realized they just weren't ready for spring yet.
We're curious about North Carolina section of the BRP and the Biltmore Estate in Asheville - will spring have sprung?
