Today we took a bus tour of the city, including areas hit by Hurricane Katrina. Interesting to see what has, and hasn't been done, so far. The damage is appalling. Apparently the river is very high right now so everyone is hoping the new levees hold.
Beignets for lunch. No need to say more!
Walked at a brisk pace back to our hotel in the Garden District when the St. Charles streetcar came by full. They don't seem to be used to seeing people enter the lobby red-faced and sweating -- several comments.
Back to the French Quarter for dinner and a show. The Hulberts, out at night, and what a night! We went to Snug Harbor, Charmaine Neville's club, for a surprisingly good dinner and an outstanding show. Charmaine sings on Monday nights and it was sold out. First she brought two Belgian horn players up to the stage from the audience and they were amazing. Who knew Belgians were full of soul. It was an absolutely wonderful evening, capped off with a walk through the length of the French Quarter to catch the streetcar to the hotel.
NOLA is really a magical place, isn't it!! We had such a nice time on Thanksgiving weekend and the beignets are wonderful! Lexie & I had cafe au lait & beignets at Cafe Du Monde on Thanksgiving morning and we loved it! I'm really enjoying your blog --- can't wait to see where you go next!
