We met up with Lesley and Ken in time for drinks in their room and then drove to the Fremont Street area for dinner at the Main Street Station casino. Nice dinner but the best part was the building - filled with fantastic antiques and art pieces.
We had such a good time with Lesley and Ken. We met them on our Greek Island cruise last fall and in that setting you don't learn the same things about people as you do when you are traveling independently with them. Lesley hunts for travel bargains the way I like to and together we really stretched our Vegas dollars! And who could have known that Ken, who really enjoys music, would light up at the mention of Larry's favorite groups - ABBA and the Beach Boys.
To finish up our last evening together before they flew back to Australia and we headed the Grammy Van towards Puyallup, we went to the Fremont Experience. They've taken several blocks of the old downtown Vegas casinos and put a continuous roof over the street part; it's hard to describe. Every building within the area is really lit up and they have lots of images flashing over your head on the ceiling. There are also entertainment stages and people dressed like Elvis, show girls, etc. that you can take your picture with. While we were there it was 80+ degrees at 9-10 p.m. so everyone is in shorts and it feels like a summer party. Just a really fun scene.
Every hour they present a light show on the ceiling to music - we watched two of them. One was choreographed to "American Pie" (long version) and it was fantastic.
The grand finale? Larry, Lesley and I went on the zip line over the crowd under the ceiling. Only lasts about 30 seconds but it was a blast. (Ken was our "bag man" - holding all of our purses, etc. on the ground.) Could not have had a better ending to a fabulous Las Vegas stay as the last major stop of our Southeast USA Road Trip!
