We're getting ready to pull out of town and it's just beautiful. The sun is shining on the rock walls and everyone is so happy. We've had quite a bit of rain the last two days but yesterday managed to make it four miles and 2300 ft elevation gain to Observation Point before the rain started. The scenery is amazing. We didn't spend a lot of time at the point because it started to rain just as I reached the top. Larry had been there some time before me and hiked back to join me on my last bit. It was a gentle spring rain for a little while, then became a hard rain. We were soaked by the time we got to the bottom but it was definitely worth it!
The torrential rains came later in the afternoon - it looked like it might flood in parts of the town. The norm here is 15 inches of rain in a year!
We don't remember Springdale from our trip to Zion in 1999 but it is quite upscale while still being small, casual and very friendly. Lots of restaurant choices but we returned to Oscars, where we did not have a small dinner last night nor tonight. Ah vacation....
It sounds amazing!!! We visited there a long time ago and might have stayed at the same lodge I think. We also hiked up to Angel's landing, though I didn't walk across that narrow bridge to the point, but Ed did. Can't wait to hear where you are headed to next. Your whole trip has sounded amazing!
