They are expecting flooding in Memphis mid-next week when we originally planned to be there so we drove there today (Saturday) instead. As it is, I-40, which we were planning to take to start our way back, is closed from flooding so we are really winging it from now on.
Dropped in at the friendly Memphis Visitor Center on the way to Graceland and got loads of great info and ideas for our visit. We'll need to spend another night!
We'd heard from people we've met that Graceland wasn't worth the trouble: too small, too pricey, too old. Well, the Hulberts thought it was a great tour. We got the headphones which adds so much to a tour, and once again found the stories informative and fun. It's crazy to think how young he was when he was on the Ed Sullivan Show, etc. and how young he was when he died - 42. At the time, he seemed like an old guy but with some perspective....
Besides the mansion, we saw his car collection, two airplanes and several exhibits, including one that had been at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. Lots of music, photos and video.
Trip Advisor and Hot Wire came through again for us. We had dinner at the #3 of 800+ restaurants in Memphis - Central Bar B Que and it was delicious. You know how the meal comes and you think, I couldn't possibly eat all that - it's enough for two or more and then you finish it all? That was us tonight! Larry had bar b que nachos; they were inspired. We're staying at another Sheraton; this one even has a guest laundry so Larry is getting that done while I finish up here.
