Hard to believe we've been back a little over a week. Definitely into the old routine, which doesn't seem to suit me as well as it does Larry. We did spend three days in Long Beach, WA, with friends and enjoyed unexpected sunshine. Next week we go to Newberg, OR, to stay with Caleb and Aidan while Jeff and Mel jet off to Jamaica, mon.
Some of the things we kept track of on our trip:
Miles: 11,693
States: 20
Nights: 59
Motels: 31
Different beds: 35 ( we had to change rooms a few times - one was flooded - not our fault!)
Nights in the tent: 0
We learned that 2 and 2.5 star Hotwire hotels are a better deal than 3 and 3.5 stars, even at the same price, because the nicer ones don't give you breakfast; want you to pay to have laundry done instead of providing a laundry room; and often charge for wireless internet.
That one 22-inch roller suitcase each is plenty for two months as long as you can do laundry. I had mine full but didn't use a third of the clothes. Larry's wasn't full, even with his big shoes. Neither was extended.
That you can eat out for two months straight and not have it get old. Did not believe this was possible. The secret? Go to fun places in "interesting" settings with good food.
That everywhere you go can be fun and worthwhile if you're open to new experiences and adventures.
That the Southeast is a wonderful place that we will return to many times, the Lord willing and the creek don't rise. Oh wait, the creek did rise. But we still hope to go back!
Wow -- love the statistics -- you made it all sound so easy!
